How to Easily Track Your ETrade Dividends

One of the largest and most trusted brokers has a complicated user interface. It’s hard to know where your dividends go and how they are represented in different accounts. You can check where your dividends went with this simple method.

There are two exceptions to the rule that dividends go to your cash account. If the dividend is in the form of a security, it cannot be deposited into your cash account. If you have activated a DRIP, dividends won’t show up in your account.

The matter is slightly more complicated than we thought at first glance. Depending on your account setup and the type funding for traders of dividend that is being distributed, E Trade will distribute your dividends to different accounts.

Where is my dividend on ETrade?

You can add dividends in the form of cash to your ETrade cash account. There are a number of ways to check if the transaction has actually happened. Three of the most common ones will be highlighted.

Why are my Dividends not showing on ETrade?

There are only three options left if your dividends aren’t showing in your cash account. Either the dividend has been reinvested automatically or it hasn’t been paid out yet.

It can take a couple of days for dividends to be posted on ETrade. It may take a few days for the transaction to appear in your statements. It might not show up in your account until Monday or Tuesday of the following week if a dividend is scheduled for Friday.

If your dividends aren’t showing after more than 3 days, you need to contact ETrades customer service.

Are Dividends on ETrade automatically reinvested?

DRIPs are a great way to accumulate interest on your investments. If you plan to accumulate dividends in a separate account, these could be a problem.

If you have a cash account, the dividend payment on ETrade will appear in it. In some cases, your dividends will be reinvested.

It is the case for most mutual funds. You can invest in the fund and have the dividends reinvested. The dividends from the given mutual fund will not show up in your account.

How to reinvest Dividends on ETrade

Let’s talk about how you can use your DRIPs to invest in ETrade. You can check the box for DRIP in your investment portfolio by going to the Dividend Reinvestment tab.

There are some things to think about before you start your DRIP.

Even though dividends are reinvested through a DRIP they still count as earnings and are a tax event.

You won’t get any dividends in your account.

You will end up with fractional shares if the dividend is not large enough. Only a broker that supports fractional shares can redeem these.
