It is always disappointing when you find something you want online, but the screen says it is out of stock. You will see a lot of that as you shop for the holidays.
The prevalence of out-of-stock messages was up 250% in October when compared to the same month in the previous year, and up 325% from October of 2019.
It has been unprecedented, compared to previous years. What we typically see as conventional wisdom online is that you can find it cheaper online, and that it is available online, and that is what has been turned on its head, said Vivek Pandya, lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights.
There were more than 2 billion out-of-stock messages displayed to online U.S. consumers in October.
The supply chain issues and the growth of everything consumers have been buying online are the reasons for the out-of-stock messages.
If you want to save money on online retailers or holiday discounts, you won’t find many.
There are shortages in the supply chain. It becomes difficult for retailers to offer as many good deals when shipping problems are added in.
The highest out-of-stock levels for electronics are found in the 18 categories tracked by Adobe.
